The Artist

…for When Eggy Met Peggy

Once upon a time there was a little girl called Amy…Once upon a time there was a little girl called Amy...
Amy Lloyd-Jones aka Bristol-based Tallulah Swirls, discovered long ago that performance and puppetry provided a platform for satisfying all her passions and talents as visual artist, maker and comedic storyteller.
More than 20 years of performing nationally for a diverse range of audiences on the streets, in theatres, festivals and schools has informed the wonderful accessibility of When Eggy Met Peggy, Amy’s first production specifically produced for theatres and schools.

” Age five, with felt tips and kindling I was producing short lived  and daring shows around and in our wood burning stove. I like to think that this fearlessness continues in my work today and I find great joy in the fact that almost anything can be made into a puppet. Most recently this has included the food on my fussy kids’ plates. Hours have been spent making fruit and vegetables, quite literally, talk their way into those stubborn little mouths “I’m a cold bored pea…please let me into your exciting warm tummy” and I have shared their delight in watching and maybe even tasting the raspberries ripening in the garden. At bedtime we are immersed in the often completely bonkers tales of  The Brothers Grimm, Maurice Sendack, Raymond Briggs, Tove Jansson, to name a few… and my current favorite, Mini Grey.
All this inspiration has conspired, with my passion for rock and roll (Little Richard, Johnny Cash) and movies (Baz Lurhann’s Strictly Ballroom definitely found its way in), to produce my very own, topsy turvy, version of The Princess And The Pea  where the audience nurture the Queen’s allotment and the food want to dance, play… and be eaten.
Through my particular brand of slightly twisted humour, a big dollop of mischief and a refusal to talk down to children I aim to intrigue my audience, keep them on their toes and, for this show, get them to know and LOVE their dinner.
I have totally indulged this production with my love for bright colors and luxurious fabrics. I find the design and build process of making the puppets myself reveals their true characters and I am very much enjoying unlocking my performance potential as the character of The Queen!”
