DIY Cut and Sew Your Own TOPSY TURVY doll kit.
She is based on a “Mexican Day Of The Dead” folklore character called La Katrina.
A shadow puppet version of La Katrina stars in my Tallulah Swirls Puppet Theatre shadow show (See my website & Instagram to see clips and pics). I am passionate about this vibrant and joyful festival.
She is TWO dolls in ONE!
The Kit includes FABRIC & step by step INSTRUCTIONS with photo illustrations.
The finished doll makes a beautiful toy and/or a striking ornament.
SPECIAL OFFER: For this run I will also be including, at no extra cost, the required amount of polyether STUFFING (hypoallergenic) and ELASTIC ( 2 x 25cm lengths, up to 1 cm wide)
If you wish to provide your own stuffing e.g. recycled scraps of fabric, sheep wool, let me know in a direct message.
The fabric is W 73 cm x H 50 cm
The finished doll is H 40cm
This design was initially painted onto paper, using vintage and new inks. I then scanned my design and got her ready to be sent to a fabric printers in the UK where she was digitally printed onto a luxurious, soft fabric which makes the colours ping!
Warnings and recommendations:
This project is suitable for anyone aged 8 +. Tools required for making doll involve sharp objects and must be used under adult supervision. Please keep kit & finished doll out of reach of under 3yrs. Keep away from heat sources and naked flames.
Fabric is 100 % Chenille (polyester). Iron on low heat without steam. Wash on delicate cycle at 30 degrees. Do not tumble dry.
This fabric has GOTS and OEKO-TEX 100 certification to ensure it does not contain harmful substances & that every part of production is sustainable & enviromentally friendly. This fabric has also passed child safety EN71-3 certification.

Bought for me and my daughter to do together ( she us 9).
It was a slightly little red hen project, by which I mean, my daughter flaked out pretty early and just set me to make it, while still revelling in the buzz of having created something! To be fair, she did a bit, most of the skirt sewing and some of the body, but I really enjoyed feeling like I’d achieved a ‘half-term’ project together.
The greatest satisfaction though, is how much Ursa loves this doll immediately. She named her, (maria) then took her to bed with her, having to be tucked in and have a kiss of each of her heads! And today is she a homeschool mascot.

I feel great satisfaction having made her and love her even more now she’s not flat packed. Wonderful cloth, fantastic colours and definitely a collectible. I’ll be showing her off to anyone who’d want one!
